Closing campuses last spring affirmed two things I believe. Schools need students and students need teachers. I said this at graduation, and I believe it is still true today. Graduation illustrated how resilient our students and community can be. Along with our teachers, our families have adapted as conditions have changed the guidelines for how we educate students. Those adaptations provided opportunities to do things differently, learn, and improve our instructional practices. As we move into the 2020-21 school year, we are prepared to provide opportunities for students to learn while being as safe as possible. We are prepared for conditions to change for better or worse. Most importantly, we know we can adapt to conditions quickly and effectively.
Parents will be asked to screen their children every day for COVID symptoms and not send them to school if they have certain symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who confirmed positive for COVID. At school, we will check student temperatures at the beginning of the day. CHS students and staff will wear face coverings, sanitize hands frequently, and clean desks and other common surfaces each class period. All campus visitors will be screened and required to wear a face covering while on campus. It is important that the school and parents work together to keep things running.
CHS has a tradition of innovation and this year that innovation will take to the air, as we offer a commercial drone pilot license course. Students will learn federal laws associated with flying drones, as well as learning how to use the various features of drones. Additionally, several students will be participating in our new work-based learning programs, including hands-on classes at work sites involving wielding, accounting, and animal science. We expect interest in work-based programs to continue growing.
Parents and community members can keep up with events at CHS by following our Facebook page and subscribing to my Week at a Glance newsletter. Parents can keep up with their child’s grades and attendance using the Parent Portal.
Do not hesitate to call or email when you have questions about CHS or your child.
This year we will Live our Excellence. We will bring our best self to school every day.
