Hello English Honors Students!

During the school I met with a group of you personally and distrubuted the summer reading assignment. Additionally, I emailed you the assignment one month before the end of the school year to ensure that you have the assignment. 

If you need to access the assignment again, here is the assignment. 

English I Honors Summer Reading

In order to be in the English I Honors course next year, you need to choose one of the following book pairings:

• “1984” by George Orwell and “Little Brother” by Cory Doctorow

• “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain and “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie

• “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare and “The Fault in our Stars” by John Green.

*Disclaimer: Some of these books contain offensive language.

Summer Assignment Requirements:

• You must read BOTH books in the book pair.
• Annotate on post it notes for the following information:
  • Personal connections with characters or situations presented in the books. (5 connections per book)
  • Societal/political connections with characters or situations presented in the books. (5 connections per book)
  • Favorite parts (subjective)
  • Questions you have (subjective)

If you read your book on a tablet or phone, then you can do the annotations on a piece of paper. Make sure it is either typed or the handwriting is legible.

We will work with these novels at the beginning of the school year.

You are responsible for acquiring the books yourself.

• Bookoutlet.com (cheap)
• i-tunes:  you can also get the audiobook here.

• READING TWO OF THE BOOKS IN THE PARINGS I LISTED ARE REQUIRED FOR THE CLASS.
• IF YOU DO NOT READ BOTH BOOKS BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL AND DO THE ANNOTATION ASSIGNMENT, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE HONORS CLASS AND PLACED IN A REGULAR ENGLISH CLASS.
